Crystalline silica is also known as free silica. Crystalline silica dust particles that are small enough to penetrate deep into the lung are termed respirable. Respirable crystalline silica may cause lung damage and disease. The non-crystalline form of silica does not cause this kind of lung damage.  Safe Work Australia Air sampling for respirable crystalline silica (RCS) was established decades ago in the coal industry. Today, this type of sampling applied to other sectors. If you are in one of those industries, you will probably be well aware of the changes.  We offer this service.    We also provide workplace assessments to clear an area post make safe and clean by the trade contractor.  On the left is the first page of our clearance certificate.  The form substantially mapped to the Code of Practice applicable to trade contractors.   Our methodology is a visual and aided inspection using a hand-held microscope to check for cleanliness.  We also assess the levels of particulates in the air using real-time instruments.  Unlike air sampling, the purpose of the post-clean-up inspection and air monitoring is to provide the contractor with a clearance declaration issued by an independent person.   The approach is similar to that of an asbestos removal assessment.   Like asbestos, RCS clearance certificates, certificates of analysis, reports, and other information is stored on the SLL encrypted server https://rcs.hazchem.com.au
